Georgie is only 19 yet her sound has the
assurance and depth of someone who’s been around music forever.
So no surprise then when you learn that she grew up totally immersed
in music and surrounded by musicians. Her father Eddie starred
in the 70’s rock band Mr Big so Georgie was learning all
about live gigs and life on the road when her mates were still
trying to get past the doormen.
Her own music (and she is fabulously talented) owes much to this
heritage, but also to Jake her older brother who co-writes and
produces Georgie’s songs. Georgie has already completed
a tour with the band Tempa Tempa, performing live for over 15,000
people and her solo career is now really kicking off with a first
album due for release in February 2008.
Her influences include Corinne Bailey Rae and Nelly Furtado, but
when you hear her sing, in what is unquestionably her own unique
voice, you may catch faint echoes of Kate Bush and sense the musicality
of a young Karen Carpenter. There is a freshness - an innocence
if you like - to her tone and when she’s delivering lyrics
like ‘I’m feeling a little bit lost right now’
and ‘Easy lovin you’, they are genuinely moving. Her
unique tonal quality is complemented by the wholly natural vibe
she projects in live performances and carries into the recording
studio. This warmth allows her to create a strong and immediate
connection with her audience, especially when she’s playing
live.
Georgie is from an Italian/English background and whilst the passion
in her songs probably owe something to her Italian blood, much
of the imagery in her work is drawn from the Oxfordshire countryside
where she grew up with brother Jake, who has co-written and produced
her first album. An extraordinarily talented musician himself,
Jake is a former member of the famous Brit School where his fellow
students included Amy Winehouse and Katie Mellua. If Georgie is
‘feeling a little bit lost right now’, it’s
because she’s moving fast and she’s going to be going
a long way.
At the age of 19 Georgie Carter's Talent is phenomenal with a
lyrical maturity and a vocal quality that is simply superb. Already
being compared to the likes of Corinne Bailey Rae, Karen Carpenter
and Nelly Furtado, Ms Carter is an extraordinary musical bombshell
just waiting to explode onto 2008.
